Get shit done

May 26, 2017

Time can be our worst enemy. We’re constantly in motion, and even when it feels like we’re crushing it on both the work and home fronts, chances are there’s still room for improvement.

First up, it’s important to understand that we’re not telling you to cram more into your already packed day. Forget working harder – we’re focused on working smarter. That means exploring how to get shit done in a more streamlined and efficient way and giving you back some precious time in the process.

Phone it in

When was the last time your phone was more than a few feet away from you? If you can’t remember, you’re not alone – but if you’re going to have a permanent electronic appendage, you may as well use it to help streamline your day.

There’s no shortage of productivity apps out there, but some of the most acclaimed include Evernote, Todoist and Wunderlist. Before you scoff at the idea of using technology to do a pen and paper’s job, consider this: When was the last time your handwritten to-do list intuitively created recurring reminders, supported a search function, or allowed other people to access and contribute to it without leaving your possession for a second? …Our point exactly.

Get it together

Think about how many different tools and platforms you use during a typical workday, and you’ll come up with a lengthy list. With everything so disparate, it’s no surprise stuff can fall through the cracks – but it doesn’t have to be that way. Project platforms like Plan and Handle for Gmail & Google Apps synergize your email, calendar, to-do lists and more, bringing together action items onto a central dashboard and quickly showing who’s doing what and when. If you’re sick of toggling between tabs, this one’s for you.

Catch some Z’s

You may pride yourself on living by the mantra “Sleep is for the weak,” but there’s just one problem – basic human biology says otherwise. In fact, the general consensus within the scientific community is that adults need around eight hours of sleep a night.

Falling asleep can be a major challenge for entrepreneurs because the same quick-thinking, multi-tasking capabilities that make you great at doing business tend to turn against you when you’re trying to catch some Z’s. Slow down your mind by playing calming music, listening to an audio book or meditating. Not sure where to start when it comes to meditation? Breathe, Calm and Stop, Breathe & Think have your back.
